Privacy policy
Pitaara is an independent project that saves the reels and short videos you send it and works out what they are about: the movie and its rating, the place on a map, the recipe and its steps. This page explains what it keeps and why.
What Pitaara collects
-
Your Instagram account ID, given to us by Instagram when you message the
Pitaara account (
@pitaara.app). It is how Pitaara knows which saves are yours. You never create a password. - What you send to the bot: shared reels (Instagram provides a temporary link to the video and its caption), video links you paste, and your text messages to the bot.
-
Your Instagram username and name, looked up from Instagram so the website
can show who you are, and whether you follow
@pitaara.app(only to decide whether to show a Follow button). - Links you add on the website, by pasting them or sharing them to the Pitaara app on your phone.
- When you sign in on the website: which browser and device it is (for example "Chrome on Windows"), when you signed in and when you last used it, so Settings can list where you're signed in. While a sign-in is in progress, the bot also tells you the rough city Cloudflare guesses from your network address, to help you spot a sign-in that isn't yours; the city is not stored. A scrambled (hashed) form of your network address is kept for up to a day to limit repeated sign-in attempts.
- What Pitaara works out from them: a title, a short summary, a category, and the movies, places, recipes or products the reel mentions, with details such as ratings, map positions and ingredients.
Pitaara does not read your other Instagram messages, your posts, your followers or anything else on your account.
How it is used
- To work out what each reel is about and reply to you with the result.
- To keep your saves so you can find them again, and to search them.
- To keep you signed in on the website and to protect your account.
Your saves are private. If you share one (Share on the reel's page), anyone with that link sees its title, summary, what was found in it and the reel's link, but never your name, your other saves or what you've ticked off. Turning sharing off stops the link working.
Pitaara does not sell your data, show ads, or use your saves to profile you.
Cookies
The website sets one cookie, which keeps you signed in, and a short-lived one while a sign-in is in progress. There are no advertising or tracking cookies and no analytics.
Services that help
To do its job, Pitaara passes the minimum needed to these services:
- Google Gemini watches the video and reads the caption to work out what the reel is about. Videos are uploaded to Google temporarily and deleted by Google within 48 hours. Gemini also turns each save's title and summary, and what you type into search, into numbers used to search by meaning; these are stored with Cloudflare under your account ID only.
- TMDB and OMDb (movie titles), OpenStreetMap and Wikipedia (place names): only the name of the movie or place is sent, never anything about you.
- Cloudflare runs Pitaara and stores its data. When something goes wrong, a technical error log is kept by Cloudflare for a few days.
- Meta (Instagram) delivers your messages to the bot and its replies to you.
How long it is kept
Your saves are kept until you delete them. Videos are not stored by Pitaara; only what it found in them, and a small copy of the reel's cover image when Instagram's own link to it would expire. A website sign-in lasts 30 days from when you last used it, or until you sign out.
What Pitaara works out about a reel (its title, summary, and the movies, places or recipe in it) is also kept for up to 30 days with no record of who sent it, so the next person who saves the same reel gets an answer at once. Deleting your data removes your saves; it doesn't touch this, since none of it is about you.
